What causes a toilet to leak from the base when flushing?

A toilet leaking at the base when you flush usually means the wax ring failed. Loose closet bolts, a cracked base, or a damaged/low flange can do the same. A clog can push water past the seal. Skip chemical drain cleaners; they can harm fixtures. We repair seals, reset or replace toilets, and clear drains in Santa Maria and Orcutt.

  • Gently snug the two closet bolts.
  • If the toilet rocks, stop using it and shut off water.
  • Call a plumber if leaking persists.
